Shock Land
Group 5 Project
-Summary-
Shock Land is a game about moving around the map strategically collecting items, moves and try to sabotage the opponent's as much as possible before the time limit runs out and both have to fight. In this game the player will be able to find different items and moves that can be used during the battle as well as items that can sabotage the opponents. The game's overall goal and objective is to become the last player standing after defeating all opponent on the board.
Iteration 1 [Idea Planning]
In the first iteration, we decided on multiple game sets based on our ideals, with Shock Land winning this option as it provides a robust gameplay that's familiar to other people who has played similar games such as Pokémon or Digimon's. Although the game is similar, we still added some twists to it such as open world tiles with players battling between each other adding in a battle royale aspect of gathering loot and preparing for a big fight.
Iteration 2 [Map and Cards planning]
In this iteration, we decided on a map without traps or obstacles at the beginning, to range out what kind of obstacles we should add in the next iterations of our game.
After deciding on the map's layout, we laid down some chests, as well as walls that will prevent player from crossing, forcing them to move in a way that's most effective and time savings as possible to collect all the moves and loot to plan out their attacks.
We decided on 8 card moves as well as 4 item cards that can be found in chests.
Iteration 3 [Battling mechanics]
Iteration 3 is when we decides on changing the battling mechanics, such as items not being able to be used in during battle can now be used. Such as Medkits, as well as items that can remove de-buff effects like bleed or burn.
These changes improved the overall battling gameplay, making it more strategic for all players. We also added some more damaging move cards to help aid the battle to be longer as well as more enjoyable.
Below are the designs of some of the cards that we created for the game
